Biofeedback

Biofeedback is an evidence-based technique that enables individuals to gain voluntary control over certain physiological functions, such as heart rate, muscle tension, respiration, and skin temperature,by providing real-time feedback from electronic monitoring devices. At Enlightened Mental Health, we utilize heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback, which measures the natural variations between heartbeats. 

How it works

  • Noninvasive sensors are placed on the body to monitor physiological processes such as heart rate, muscle activity, or brainwaves.
  • Data from these sensors is displayed visually on a monitor or conveyed through auditory signals, allowing individuals to observe their body’s responses in real time.
  • With guided practice, individuals learn to regulate these processes, such as slowing their breathing, reducing muscle tension, or promoting relaxation.
